Questionnaires are all filled out!

Woo-hoo! When Sarah and I started talking about organizing this, I had this fear of someone disappearing and us not being able to figure out who they were sending to, and then that person being sad. But it's all okay now! All present and accounted for sir, including the moose. (bonus points if you know that line)

Why are you Vegan?

Hello everyone! I (as you can see below on my questionnaire - I'm Sarah L.) am mostly vegetarian - mainly because my husband lost more than 100 lbs eleven years ago now and animal fat is a great thing to cut out of our diets... Also, I think I feel better when I don't eat beef. Turkey and chicken are something else - I hate raw chicken. It's that odd color and I'm always paranoid about salmonella. I always used to burn myself on the hot water while washing dishes that had touched raw chicken! My husband cooks, so it's really up to him. And he thinks birds are nasty creatures and we shouldn't eat them (or their products - he hates eggs). I really enjoy hard cheeses - especially with a glass of wine (sorry!). Seafood does not get made often in my house because it makes the house smell like, well, dead fish. So why mostly vegetarian? Well, my family doesn't really accept my healthful diet, let alone a vegetarian one! So family events and eating out with them have been difficult. Did you know that Chile's restaurants have NO vegetarian options (besides perhaps the side garden salad and probably the alcoholic drinks). And my family also enjoys Wendy's, McDonald's, Taco Bell, and pepperoni pizza.

I loved reading everyone's responses to the questionnaire - and I've checked out many of your blogs already (yep, stalking you all!)... but I'm curious about why those of you who are vegan have chosen that lifestyle. There are many reasons to be vegan - what are yours? Or, why do you eat meat for those who do?

Swap answers

Hi all. I was just reading over the reposts of swap answers and I've bought myself memory wire cutters and updated some answers since then and the links didn't transfer, so I wanted to tell my pal to read my answers off the original post. Plus, I've added a link to my past swap answers in the upper right hand corner of my blog so that you can get to it easily. Thanks!

Have My Pal

Checked my mail and there was the announcement that I had a pal assigned. Just looked over her questionnaire. Hmm.... ideas already popping into my head. Now to make up just the right package. =)

Everybody's questionnaires

Since we all answered the quesionnaire on different days, I went to everyone's blogs and copied over the questionnaires. This is just another service we offer. ;) Names are alphabetical, as in the list in the sidebar. Please scroll down and find your partner!

Also, we were on the fence about this one, but have decided to keep the swap secret.

People who still need to complete the questionnaire are: Cristel, Hannah, Hayley, and Rina. Please post your answers on your blog/site and email me a link, or post here in the comments of this entry. Let me know if anyone needs another invite to join the blog. Happy crafting!

Desirée

1.) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it?
I'm mainly a knitter, for nearly 2 years now. I also crochet, bead, sew (more modification than creation), and cross-stitch.

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?
Vegan =D

3.) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)?
I love orange but not with black. Also, purple (not lavendar), red/burgundy, blue (not navy), green (not dark), black, brown, earth tones. I own nothing pink and I like it that way. Not a fan of day-glow yellow or gold either.

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?
Yes; dust, grass, pollen, most "fragrance" additives and scented things, smoke. And I'm deathly allergic to cats. If you have cats and make me something, please pop it into the wash first, with vegan yarns, that shouldn't pose a problem. =) I'm not allergic to any foods.

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?
Nope, sadly. I used to have a herd of Dalmatians though. I miss them.

6.) Do you collect anything?
Strangely, I collect rosaries. I haven't shown off my collection here yet, but I have about two dozen now. It all started with a glow-in-the-dark one I found at a thrift shop. You'd think something that was once so precious to someone wouldn't end up in a thrift shop. So I rescued it. 11 years later and I'm still rescuing them.

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)
I had Tings finally and they really are like grown-up Cheeto's! They are good, but truly I'm a chocolate lover. Anything dark in the 55-70% cocoa range, mint or nuts optional (no fruits). Please no coffee/tea/alcohol.

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)
Goodness, I can't think of anything I need! Some nifty yarn (*chuckle* as if I don't have enough yarn!), or something to measure yarn length on (I don't even know what that would be). Ooh, one of those rings to open jump rings while beading. Instructions for chainmaile and/or chainmaile rings. Maybe some good beading thread/wire (I'm just starting with the beading, so I don't know what to use).

I have too many needles and hooks, too much DMC floss and cross-stitch fabric. I have tape measures and counters and stitch markers (I make my own), a ball winder and a swift. Hmm.. what I really need is time and a clean house ;) But I'll love anything you send. =)

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)
A pin cushion would be cool, stationary, a scarf, a hat or nearly anything else you want to make me! I say nearly because I'm not a purse type of girl. And, though I like jewelry, I don't wear a lot of it unless I'm going out. Gets in the way of typing.

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?
This is the first swap I've hosted (or co-hosted) and I'm excited. I hope we all come out of this with new friends.

Ellie

1.) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it?

I'm a knitter and miscellaneous crafter. I learned to knit in 1997, but then kind of dropped it for a few years and picked it back up 2003/4 and did nothing but reverse garter stitch (Is that even a term? It was all purling) scarves (for pay) for a year before branching out. So basically really only about 2 years. But technically almost 10.

Likewise, I learned to cross stitch when I was very young, picked it back up in high school along with embroidery, beaded bracelets on looms, and knotted friendship bracelets, forgot about it for a while and picked embroidery back up a few months ago. I have GOBS of embroidery floss.

I've also been playing around with beads for a few months and have grand schemes to sew myself a dress (I sewed a lot in junior high and high school). This dress actually.

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?

I'm a former vegan, current vegetarian with strong vegan leanings. I try to only buy vegan groceries and vegan yarns, but I'll have the occasional bit of cheese or ice cream or whatever if I'm out at a restaurant. I don't drink milk or eat eggs, but I won't necessarily turn down a brownie kind of sums it up.

3.) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)?

I'm currently doing a lot with brown. Which is taking over from my black obsession which still lingers a bit. As far as colors go, I would say that the purpose makes a big difference. I would never wear something that was a pastel or a bright garish color, I go for neutrals in that regard, but house decorations or jewelry or office supplies are a completely different story. I love my neon pink translucent clip board.

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?

I certainly don't like the smell of cigarettes, but my only allergy is dust and maybe mold, so nothing that would affect a swap.

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?

I have a calico kitty named B. She’s a terror, but I love her.

6.) Do you collect anything?

I collect those rubber bouncy balls from quarter machines.

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)

Tofutti fudge pops! (but those aren't mailable.) which reminds me that one time ever I had this awesome huge tofutti chipwhich kind of thing. One of my brother's friends had brought them to our house. I have no idea where she got them and I've never seen them since.

Mailable foods… I like sour, sweet, and salty, but not spicy or fruity. I also love loose leaf tea, but again, not fruity.

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)

A ball winder and a swift! (but I realize that's above the price range of this swap.) I also really need a memory wire cutter, but I think those are pricey and hard to find too.

So… Instead I will say that I'm open to whatever fun crafty supplies you can think of and will just list off what I don't need instead.

I do NOT need any knitting needles or crotchet hooks, I've got complete sets, in fancy wrap holders, along with scissors, chibi, sewing needles, stitchmarkers, gauge checkers, and tape measurers. I've also got more bags than anyone really needs. (Which, of course, won't stop me from buying more…)

I also do NOT need embroidery floss, needles, hoops, or patterns designed by Sublime Stitching (except the cassette tape, I could totally use the cassette tape.)

I'll update this section once I get my new weaving book. I might be in the market for something from that.

Oh, and I would love to make something with some of those more atypical fibers - banana, corn, bamboo, etc...

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)

I live in Austin, so I don't need anything to keep me warm, and I don't wear scarves. I LOVE stationary and hand printed/pressed items if anyone is crafty in that style. Otherwise I suppose I like fun little cute or useful things.

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?

Some of my big loves lately are deep sea life, book history, and new library technologies. Yeah, I'm a big geek/nerd.

Emily

1.) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it?

I'm a knitter and I've been doing it for almost a year!

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?

I'm vegan.

3.) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)?

My favorite colors are fall earth tones (olive green, eggplant purple, brick red, chocolate brown). I'm not into pastels, particularly pink, although I sometimes do light yellow or blue.

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?

I'm allergic to: pets with hair, cigarette smoke, artificial scents ( no strong scented candles, please, unless they are just made with essential oils), and to all nuts except for almonds, and sulfite preservatives. The last two mainly apply to candy - please check to make sure there are no metabisulfite or other similarly worded preservatives in any candies with fruit in them. If you aren't sure, just ask me!

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?

No animals (see above).

6.) Do you collect anything?

I'm a birdwatcher so I love anything with birds on it, especially shore and water birds (ducks, geese, sandpipers, etc.). I'm really into Moomin characters. I also like animals in general, especially old-fashioned drawings or depictions. I like cartoons from the early part of the century (like Krazy Kat).

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)

I'm more of a cookie girl rather than chocolate although I do relish a good chocolate. I like gummy candies. I love the flavors of gingerbread, pumpkin spice, mint, and berry. I love green tea and coffee.

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)

Wish:

-yarn bras
-smaller DPNS or circs (size 0-2) for socks in bamboo or birch (DPNs) or bamboo or aluminum (circs)
-cloth holder for crochet hooks
-more crochet hooks (I only have B, D, and G)
-a few more stitch holders
-point protectors for DPNs
-16" 3 circ, 29" 3 or 4 circ
-those knit clips that hold pieces together to help with seamings

Don't need:

-Here are the needles I already have: Straights (8-11), circs (5-9).
-tapestry/yarn needles
-chibi
-straight needle holder
-stitch counter
-scissors
-plastic stitch markers (I have some circular and some clip-on)

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)

For knitters - I would love socks, gloves, a scarf, or a mini purse. For paper crafters - I'd love a little journal or some hand-made stationary. For sewers, I'd love a mini purse, accessory bag, drawstring bag to put a knitting project in, scarf, handkerchief, or small table runner or cloth. For beaders, I don't wear earrings but I have very little jewelry - simple is better - bracelet, pendant, stitch markers, or simple necklace would be lovely.

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?

I think in general, I like simple items where the color isn't too busy (like tie-dye - ick!) And anything tending towards old-fashioned is best unless it's simple modern. I'm not a girly-girl but I'm trying to move on from my previous black goth wardrobe and current "It's not very fashionable but it works to wear it when working with toddlers" look. I have a lot of novelty dresses from the 50s but no accessories or bags to go with them. Even a pair of white bobby socks would be wonderful. Always feel free to ask me any more questions.

1.) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it? I've got two crafts, knitting and beading. I've been beading for about 20 years, and have been knitting for about 4 years.

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other? I'd say I'm veg-friendly.

3.) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)? I love purple. I also like pinks, blues, and greens.

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)? No, although I really don't like the smell of cigarette smoke.

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types? I've got two kitties.

6.) Do you collect anything? I love Sanrio, knitting needles and notions, pretty beads, pretty clasps, rings sizes 5 and 7(it's the one piece of jewelry I don't make), little bags and pouches for knitting and beading projects to be carried around in, hand spindles.

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!) Hmmm, well I'm up for trying anything. I especially like nuts and dried fruits. I also love sour candies, and of course chocolate.

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list) Well, I like the little wooden needle cases at kpixie. I'm open to anything really. I do have a ton of stitch markers though, as I make them myself.

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.) I love all things knit and crochet. It would be fun to receive a bead item, as I always enjoy looking at other bead artists work, I like handmade cards, love hand made bags and pouches. I'd be open to whatever craft my pal does.

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you? I have two kids that like to craft, so if you have any suggestions or links to projects that I could do with my children (ages 2 and 4) that would be awesome!

Michelle B.

1.) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it?
I knit, and only just now realized that the swap is probably open to crafters of many orientations. Wow. Well I've been doing it off and on for about two years when a friend of mine taught me the basics, and Stich N Bitch helped me from there. I'd consider myself an intermediate at the beginning stages.

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?
I usually tell people I'm vegan when I get this question, for simplicity's sake. A more accurate, but longer, answer would be to say I'm ideologically freegan with a personal preference that manifests in small excursions in lacto-vegetarianism that occasionally deviate from the, uh, traditional vegan path. Basically, I only purchase vegan items (food, clothing, etc.) but am not completely against accepting things in my life that aren't technically vegan as long as I have not financially supported it in a significant way. For example, if there's a bit of wool in some yarn that has been gifted to me or my mom cooked me a dinner that has had some butter slipped in by accident. See Wikipedia's article on freeganism, though they make it more hardcore and uniform than many people practice it.

3.) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)?
I'm really into greens (especially olive) right now, but I think this has resulted in some recent purchases that have my stash covered when it comes to green. I could use more browns for sure, I love earthtones. Right now I hate all reds, I just knit a top (Orangina) with a beautiful earthy red that I've grown sick of and I can't bear to look at any "hot" colors. Variegateds generally turn me off, they look confusing to me unless they're monochromatic. I'm not big on purples, though I think this is a phobia I need to get over, and I have an affinity for eggplants... I'd love to experiment with my comfort zone by trying a deep purple sometime.

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?
I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to milk, but since I don't really consume it, it's hard to know. I got a calcium deposit when I was five that temporarily paralyzed my right hand from drinking too much milk... creepy, huh. I hate cigarettes, but love aminals.

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?
I have a six year old black cat named Ahimsa, and he is basically my baby. My partner of five years, Brian, and I are not in a place right now to have kids but really want some, so we take it out on Ahimsa. He gets held with his head over our shoulders a lot, and is a total snuggler at night. I really do think he's my soulcat, he's even vegan! (He throws up when he eats meat, and loves vegan food, especially soy sour cream.)

6.) Do you collect anything?
Just yarn and other knitting-related items, it's a terrible habit! I'm living with seven housemates, so I don't really have the space to collect anything else. I used to compulsively buy books, I still have four six-foot tall shelves filled but it's not growing... and I'm big into zines, especially anarchist and poetry zines, but we store those in communal space.

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)
This is really hard... veganism has made me semi-obsessed with food. I like tempeh dishes, my favorite vegetables are broccoli and spinach (I need to learn how to make vegan spinach dip!), I'm a fan of chocolate like most people but non-dairy, love lasagna and Vegan Gourmet mozzarella is perhaps the best thing ever.

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)
I definitely don't need needles, as I've collected almost every size the past couple years and I think the next step is buying some interchangeables, probably the KnitPicks ones. I don't think there's much I need as far as knitting tools go, just more yarn! I learned how to make socks last year but never went beyond one basic pair, and had fun using Cascade Fixation, which is pretty much the only yarn that's good for socks and is vegan. I'm also interested in exotic plant fibers (like hemp, linen, nettle) to try knitting some bath acccessories like loofahs.

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)
I have a pretty deep appreciation for handmade items in general, so even items that I don't absolutely love still tend to impress me and I can value people's skills. I guess something small would be most convenient for me given my living space situation, but I don't need bags because I just bought an amazing Queen Bee purse.

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?
I think that's it! I'm ramble-y so I pretty much covered everything above. ;) Hopefully I won't come off as exclusive or odd, I suppose it's fair to say I live an unusual and maybe strict lifestyle but I love people and different points of view, and am always open to discussing things, or completely avoiding them because I do believe connections can be made beyond politics. Truth be told I live with a bunch of vegetarian radicals, but I'm working on expanding my base of friends.

Michelle C.

1.) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it?

Knitting – one and a half years

Sewing – machine sewing for a little over a year, hand sewing since college

Cross stitch/embroidery – about a year or so

Beading – off and on, mostly earrings for friends, sometimes bracelets and necklaces

Making polymer (femo) beads: off and on for several years

Playing with herbs and essential oils and making lotions and potions: several years

Cooking – alchemy in the kitchen since the late 90s (I love herbs and spices!)

Making handmade books and other small press stuff – for about 8 years, off and on

Writing poetry – hmm, over 10 yrs off and on and off

Making stuff out of other discarded stuff – forever (Nick from Family Ties=early childhood hero)

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?
I am very vegan. If I could be vegan twice, I would be! I love Robyn’s answer to this one, too.

3.) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)?
likes: orange, lime green, bright pink, lemon yellow, turquoise, periwinkle, some brown, sometimes burgundy, other rusty fall colors, even mustard yellow but my favorites are the first five. I love bright and deep colors best.

dislikes: This changes, but right now I’m really not into forest green (it was my favorite color in high school/first year of college and I have too much of it around), navy, red and blue together, too much black or too much white.

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?
Cats, smoke in my face, fried tofu sold as fake shrimp (gross). About everyone I know seems to have at least one cat, and it doesn’t stop me from going over to their houses and hanging out with them. And there’s still smoking in bars here and that usually won’t stop me from going. But unless you send me a cat and ask me to keep it as my pet or send a lit cigarrette in the mail and then make sure the postman blows the smoke directly into my face, I will be good.

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?
Nope. It’s just me and AA (Aaron).

6.) Do you collect anything?
oh boy! yarn, books of all kinds (particularly craft books, cook books, reference books, poetry books, flip books), fabric, spices, vintage clothes, pretty bags and huge bags and canvas bags for groceries, vintage glass beads, buttons, milk glass, vintage pyrex, bowls and cups, aprons, community newspapers, postcards, vintage sewing and knitting patterns, sassy magazines from the early 90’s (only 1 so far!), blank books, leaves, rocks, ephemera,…I’m trying not to actively collect anything right now (broke), though, especially stuff that I have no idea where it goes. Like if it doesn’t have a use, but just sits on the shelf, I get very confused.

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fave that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)
wizzer eggs and wizzer beans, peanut butter cups or almond butter cups, vegan nougat, rooibos tea (green or red, honeybush or fruit bits or without, i'm totally out!), gummy bears, fun hot sauces, valentine box chocolates, cinnamon rolls, chocolate (my favorite is the chocolove kind with raspberries in it!), Uncle Eddie's cookies, chocolate chips, soy delicious purely decadent on its own or in a shake, avocado, wasabi peas, really rich brownies, raspberries, melon slices, mango, vegetables with creamy dip, fake cheese, nutritional yeast, injera, Ethiopian food, pizza, fresh cupcakes and fresh donuts! Do you have a neato vegan specialty from your region of the world? That would be cool, too!

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)

Wish List:
I’m always feeling like the knitting needles I need are the ones I don't have. I like circulars but I have a bunch of random sizes/lengths. Let me get back to you on that! I don't have dpns in sizes 4 - 6 (I like Crystal Palace ones best). I've heard nice things about Lantern Moons...

"fat quarters" of pretty fabrics

vintage knitting patterns from old magazines

sewing patterns

trim, rick rack, ribbon, bias tape

more dress pins with the big colorful bubble on top

cool/vintage buttons

snaps

velcro

neato vintage opaque glass beads

thrift store/rummage/curb finds

I don’t know where to get dried curry leaves yet

Anti-Wish List:

blank books

crayons/markers/fancy pens

Acrylic/craft yarn

books on how to learn crochet

crochet hooks

bamboo circs

femo

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)
Gosh, I don't know. What do you like to make? I like fun stuff and whimsical stuff and useful stuff and vintage-inspired. I'd love to get something from you that you made just for me. That always feels nice.

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?
Secrets are exciting. Getting stuff in the mail is exciting. Just knowing that someone is thinking about me is all gooey and sweet. Hmmm, I wrote about myself most recently in these two posts.

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)

I like limited amounts of sweets, preferring more salty/savoury foods.
Coffee is one of my vices and I am addicted to chickpeas.
For chocolate, the darker and more bitter, the better.
Peanut butter is also high on my "likes" list.

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)

Wish:

* circular needles (I have only 1 set of 4.5 mm - 16 inch circulars)

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)

I would be really happy with with just about anything! But since I should probably be specific:
cell phone pouch (knit or sewn), earrings or necklace (based on my favourite colours), wrist warmers, wrist cuff, ear warmer, ankle socks, paper cards, paper book, photo album,

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?

I'm sure there's stuff that I could say, but I'm not sure what at the moment. Umm... I *think* I have a pretty good sense of humour and I'm dangerously close to being a cat lady. How's that? :)

1.) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it?
What isn't my craft? I mainly knit and reconstruct these days, but I also love to crochet, sew, embroider (very basic stuff) and now write out profanity disguised as cross stitch.

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?
I am a vegan who is also friendly and curious.

3.) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)?
I love most colors, my favorites change daily. I always love reds and greens. I hate salmon, peach and any other pink with yellow in it.

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?
I am allergic to cats, but can live with about everything else.

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?
I have a bichon-westie mutt dog named Astrid. She is the queen of our house and our universe.

6.) Do you collect anything?
Yikes, this answer gets scarier everytime I answer it. I collect Catholic paraphanelia, especially thing relating to Mary, pin-ups, tiki stuff, mini plastic snow globes from airports, and now spoons from around the world (I found a collection at a yardsale so I consider myself a collector.)

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)
Last week Jell-o instant pudding was on sale at the grocery store (about half of the flavors are vegan) so right now that is my favorite food, but I also love Alternative Baking Company cookies, Uncle Eddie's cookies, and tofutti pizzas (mainly because they remind me of my summers at the pool.)

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)
Stitch markers, no matter how many I aquire I can never find one when I need it so those can top my list, my favorites are those little green and orange ones that look a little like safety pins, but I also love the handmade ones. I have also noticed quite a gap in my needle collection lately, especially when it comes to dpns. I don't have dpns in sizes 1, 4, 6, 10.5 or 11.

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)
I would love a sewn bag with lots of inner compartments that will magically organize my life. Also, I love knitted hats, large rings, zines, and other such things. I don't like anything country, if you can find it at a Cracker Barrel it doesn't belong in my life. I like things that look handmade, a little rough around the edges (for you Cracker Barrel types that does not mean you can throw some straw into the mix.)

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?
I will love whatever you make from me.

Sabrina

1.) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it?
I publish zines: my main one is called "dimanche" and contains food writing and random fun stuff. I've been doing it since January '06. I also love cooking and baking. I have dreamed of being a chef since elementary school.

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?
I am mostly vegan. I was vegan for two years (November 2002 - November 2004) but when I became pregnant in Nov. '04 I started craving cheese and dairy... I remained a vegetarian and recently started eating vegan again.

3.) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)?
I love bright candy colours. My favourites are green and pink.

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?
No

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?
No, although I do have a son named Zachary who is 15 months old.

6.) Do you collect anything?
Cookbooks, zines, pretty papers, records. I also collect novelty cheese spreaders... you know, those little rounded knives with cute decorative handles... they can be used for spreading just about anything or cutting soft foods like bananas :-)

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)
I love mashed potatoes and salsa! I love cupcakes and almost any dessert. (I hate desserts with fruit in them other than apples and bananas.) As for snacks, I love trail mix and nuts.

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)
For zines: pretty papers/scrapbooking papers, double sided tape, glue sticks, stickers
For cooking/baking: cookbooks, food zines, decorative cupcake liners, wooden spoons, sprinkles/jimmies, organic spices

I can't have too much of anything :-)

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)
Anything is fine with me! Although I must mention I do not wear pierced earrings (I have gauged ears) and I am very picky about jewelrey (I wear boldly colored large beaded necklaces mostly).

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?
I do not drink alcohol. I love tea. I am not really in to pets/animal-related stuff. I am really looking forward to this swap!!!

1.) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it?

My craft was first scrapbooking. I burned out big time and don't do it much anymore. After that came knitting, but now I am dealing with nerve damage and not doing it until it gets better, if it even does.

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?

I am way vegan!

3.) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)?

I love earth tones, and white. I am not into pastels, country colors, or super colorful things. I'm bland. :P

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?

I'm very allergic to cigarette smoke.

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?

Zoe is my chihuahua, she's 2 years old. I have other fur kids, but she is my baby.

6.) Do you collect anything?

Lapel pins! Also coffee theme items.

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)

I am on a diet, so I am trying to avoid junk food. That being said I would LOVE a vegan peanutbutter cup, whizzers, any variety! On the healthier side, I can't find tofurky jerky anymore (regular, not spicy) and miss it very much. I don't like fruit, or things with nuts in it (though I like raw nuts eaten plain). Dying to try actual name brand Red Star nutritional yeast. I live in beef land, Kansas, and we don't have many exciting choices for vegan eating. If it isn't at Whole Foods or Wild Oats, I don't get to have any. I'm open to new things!

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)

I don't need anything for knitting since I don't know if I'll be able to do it again. I am kind of struggling to find my new craft right now. I am happy to try new things, or if you want to skip this part of the package for me, thats okay too!

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)

I would love anything you make for me! I am simple and have bland tastes. I like earthy things, I get a big kick out of like, knitted food too. Really, anything you make me, I will love it. :)

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?

Well, I went vegetarian at age 9. My parents are omnis and wondered if I got hit in the head. I went full vegan at 17. I'm 26 now. I have been married for almost 8 years. My husband is an omni too, but he is making progress! I'm in love with my Apple computer. Really. I love dogs, coffee, and simplicity. My mission in life right now is losing weight. I'm down 38 pounds as I write this, and am just about half way to my goal. I guess thats about it! :)

Sarah L.

1.) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it?
Currently, knitting - for about 2 months (and not regularly, but that isn't my choice!). I'd love to sew, but I don't have a sewing machine or the space to put one. Crochet still stumps me - I keep wanting needles to put the stitches on!

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?
98% Vegetarian. And very curious. Some people say too curious.

3.) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)?
I love green (sage, or perhaps 70's carpet green), also love red - especially true reds. Blue, brown, autumnal colors - yay! I don't like pastels - I keep trying and failing.

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?
Cigarette smoke. Also a form of penicillan, but since it's illegal to pass on your drugs... Please don't send mold or ragweed, either.

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?
Hahaha - four cats have me as a slave. Ok. Only Chester thinks I'm his slave. They are Lotus, Tyger, Anya (little one), and Chester.

6.) Do you collect anything?
Um. Yarn. (don't tell my husband...he doesn't know yet) And boxes and bags - I'll buy these even if I don't need them - I love containers!

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)

Hmmm...my favorite foods are potato leek soup (my mom makes this with heavy cream, chicken broth, and cheddar cheese - it's not even vegetarian!) rice pudding, and pumpkin pie. Wow. I really want pie or pudding now. Hmm. None of those is vegan. Dark chocolate then? ;)

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)

I don't have any stitch markers, not enough row counters, and only have a few sets of needles. I keep my needles stashed in drawers, bags, etc. because I have no rolls or anything to put them in! Not only that, but I also have no nice knitting totes to put my projects in! I know, I have bags, but most of these have other purposes (or aren't up to the job). I have plenty of rubber stamps and ink pads from attempting to make cards and altered books. That didn't go well.

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)

A sewn tote bag - so cool! Or handmade needle roll...um...ok, well, there could be something cool I'm not thinking of yet - what's your expertise? That's probably what I'd like!

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?

I don't know what to do with eyelash and funky acrylic yarns. I really am not confident enough to wear that stuff..but I've seen some great soy and bamboo yarn I'd love to try out!

1.) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it?

Knitting. I've known how for about 20 years, but have only become more serious about it since earlier this year. I've recently started sewing purses but I'm still getting the hang of that.

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?

Vegetarian. Married to a vegan. Love vegans. Also love cheese. Sorry.

3.) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)?

Dark purple and red. Earthy and fall colours are good too. I really don't like any pastels. In fact, I hate them.

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?

I'm not allergic to cigarette smoke, but I don't like it. Supposedly, I am allergic to the medicine Bactrim, which hasn't been tested since I was 1 year old, but just to be safe, please don't grind it up and then roll the yarn in it. Thanks.

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?

I have a future beagle named Ralph, but he hasn't been born yet. I don't think his parents have either.

6.) Do you collect anything?

I collect cans of fake Dr Pepper. Like Dr. Perky, Dr. Skipper, Dr. Starr and so on. I have about 50 knock offs!

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)

I love dark chocolate. Not the super bitter ones, but maybe the next level up. My favourite dish in the whole world is a vegan yellow tofu and spinach curry but it is only found in Melbourne, Australia. I like sweets. Not fruity sweets so much, but sugary sweets. I don't licorice or anything anise tasting.

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)

I don't have too much stuff, so I'll tell you what I DO have. Size 9 29" circs, size 9 DPNs, size 8 16" circs, size 8 long flexible needles, size 8 DPN, size 7 16" circs, size 7 DPNs, size 6 16" circs, size 6 DPNs, Chibi needles, row counter, tape measure, crochet hook, stitch markers, stitch holders and those things you stick on the end to stop the knitting from falling off. Again that's stuff I DO have.

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)

Um, I can't think of anything in particular! I'm sure I'll like anything as long as it's not in pastels. Oh! And I hate teddy bears. Not the actual bears as much as things with pictures of bears.

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?

Not really!

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?

Cigarette smoke

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?

Yes, dogs

6.) Do you collect anything?

old/antique sewing accessories, springer spaniel stuff

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)

homemade cookies

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)

I am always in need of little project bags with closures. Any punch needle accessories are also welcomed! :)
I'm well stocked in crochet hooks.

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)

I love handmade gifts. Most anything is appreciated, though I'm not a fan of young / hip things like handwarmers, wrist bands, nothing wild for me. I'm 54!

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?

I work full time and don't have much spare time. I love the fall and am excited about the amount of yard work shrinking so I have more time for crafting.

1.) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it?
- I have two main crafts, beading and knitting. I've been beading for the last 4 years and knitting for a total of 3 years (I learned to knit years ago but was... distracted... by other crafts). LOL!

2.) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?
- Veg-friendly.

3.) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)?
- I like most colors, it's bad combinations that make me cringe.

4.) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?
- I'm allergic to avocados. Strong pet odors and cigarette smoke make me sneeze.

5.) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?
- Not at the moment though I plan on getting cats when we get a house.

6.) Do you collect anything?
- Beads, yarn, dragons, Disney pins, cookbooks, etc...

7.) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish? If no fav that's vegan (for those who aren't vegan), what's your favorite food? (Hopefully your pal can find a vegan version!)
- My favorite vegetarian dish is called "Asparagus and Lemon Fettucine". Yum yum! I make it with regular cream and Parmesan cheese but the soy versions work fine for those you are true Vegans. As for snacks and such: I'm a rice fiend; cookies, ice cream and chocolate are my sweet downfalls; and for the salty stuff, give me CHEESE DOODLES!

8.) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list)
- Hmm... In the beading camp, anything is appreciated except for those grey flocked beading trays. Just don't like them. Over on the knitting side, again anything is appreciated but I don't need stitch markers. I'm good there.

9.) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)
- Surprise me. I'd rather not pigeon whole my pal into having to make something they'd rather not do. Make me something that tickles YOUR fancy. Whatever you do best, that's what I'd like one of please.

10.) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?
- Best thing would be to read my blog (and the older posts) to get to know me. I'm an eclectic person and am easily fascinated.

1) What is your craft, & how long have you been doing it?
I love making jewelry, namely beaded earrings and necklaces. I also love knitting and sewing things like aprons and baby gifts (for my friends). I have just started quilting and i love that. I'm hoping to better my craft at sewing, though.

2) Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?
A vegan!

3) What is your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike a color(s)?
LOVE Blue – turquoise/baby/aqua and dislike red

4) Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods or cigarette smoke)?
I have lots of allergies but that doesn’t stop me. I have allergies to animal dandrin (but have a cat), dust, eggs, mould, grass, ragweed, and react to smoke.

5) Do you have any companion animals? If so, names and types?
I have a cat named Shuma. We found him near my parents’ cottage. He’s 2 and has a twin brother that lives with our friends.

6) Do you collect anything?
Oh, where to start? I collect vintage aprons, vintage sewing patterns, decorative tins, vintage kitchen utensils, shoes, purses (do those count?). Let me get back to you on that because i know my partner will say i collect more!

7) Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish?
Good dark chocolate that’s also fair trade. Hands down.

8) What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of? (basically a wish and anti-wish list).
I would love new trim and I have too much fabric – I am running out of space to store it all. I can't think of what else on my wish list though. I also already have enough knitting needles (straight and circular) as well as fabric holders for them. I could use some small dpn for socks (i.e. size 2) though. Also have enough seed beads but am always looking for cool beads and buttons!

9) What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like? (Keep in mind this swap is open to all types of crafters.)
Oh wow, this is a hard question: I love getting beads more than jewelry as gifts because that’s so personal and selective. I MEAN I HAVE MY OWN TASTE. I love nice soaps that are vegan (instead of stinky stuff) as well as pins and brooches. And, i love getting cute knitted things (like toy animals) and things with transfer images on them. I'm also really into cross-stitch things that i can use as art or make into other projects with!

10) Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?
Um, I work as a counselor for abused women who lives in Toronto, a pretty vegan-friendly place! I love DIY things and really respect women who can balance their many hats!
